How to apply


Returning applicants: Greater Horizon’s application platform and process has changed, renewal grants are contingent on the student submitting renewal paperwork, maintaining full-time enrollment, a minimum 3.0 GPA, visit the renewal site to read the application instructions carefully. The application window for renewals is May 1, 2024 – June 30, 2024 to allow time for including most recent grades. 


To apply to the Huang Leadership Development Scholarship, you will be required to complete an online application. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you start gathering your required documents and begin the application process at least three to four weeks before the May 13th application deadline. 


Step 1

Thoroughly review eligibility requirements, timeline, and required materials information for the 2024 Huang Leadership Development Scholarship. 


Step 2

Gather the supporting documents listed in the Required Supporting Documents section. 


Step 3

Create a new account with your current email address. Please note: You will be able to save and return to your application at any time (prior to submitting)


Step 4

Login to your account with Greater Horizons. Complete the entire application. Do not leave any sections blank. If an item does not apply to you, type N/A. 


  • Employee information collects information on your relationship to the  employer (employee name, position, dates of employment, and other  related questions)
     

  • Education collects academic related enrollment (current/future enrollment and goals);
     

  • Extracurricular activities collects information on activities (school, community or work related) that you have been involved in, and any awards or honors that you may have received
     

  • Required supporting documents collects all of your required attachments as attachments. All attachments must be uploaded as a Word doc or PDF. Refer to the Required Supporting Documents and Guidelines for the required attachments.

Required supporting documents and guidelines

In order for applications to be considered, the online application and attachments must be submitted in English and received by Greater Horizons by 11:59PM (PST) on May 13, 2024. 


1. Personal statement

Your personal statement must be 500-850 words and must address the following prompts: 

• Describe yourself to the scholarship committee, your short and long-range goals and highlight your academic accomplishments.

• Share with the committee the leadership qualities you feel you possess and describe events or activities in which you have demonstrated excellence in leadership.

• Reflect on your personal journey (significant accomplishments, challenges and/or hardships) and any life lessons, discuss what you have learned from these and how you think it will help you succeed in college and ultimately in your career. 


2. Two letters of recommendation (PDF)

Your two letters of recommendation must be signed and dated. 

• One letter MUST be from an academic advisor who must address your academic performance

• The second letter should be ONE of the following:


✓  A letter regarding your leadership qualities, from a teacher, academic advisor, work or volunteer supervisor

✓  A letter regarding your academic distinction, from a teacher or academic advisor (current college students — the advisor should be from your field of study)

✓  A letter regarding your character, from a teacher, academic advisor, or work or volunteer supervisor


In your application, you will be able to provide the name and email address of two people who will upload the letters of reference on your behalf.


1. First, include the name and email address of your two recommenders in your application (be sure to ask recommenders before providing their information)

2. Then, Greater Horizons will email your recommenders and request that they submit their letters to us directly. 


3. Official or unofficial transcripts of grades (submit both PDFs and hard copies)

Only mail a hard copy if your school will not issue official or unofficial transcripts directly to students. Hard copy transcripts can be mailed to the address below:

If your school provides official electronic transcripts, they can be sent to scholarships@greaterhorizons.org.

Current Graduating High School Seniors
Submit an official or unofficial high school transcript(s) AND unofficial or official college transcript(s), if applicable.

Current College Students
Submit official or unofficial college transcript(s) for all college coursework completed AND official or unofficial high school transcript(s).

Note: Any unofficial transcripts submitted will be reviewed for inconsistencies and an official transcript may be requested at any time for confirmation. All submitted transcripts must include: student’s full name, student ID number, name of high school or college, all courses and grades, and cumulative GPA.

International Students
Submit official transcripts from your academic institution — both in their original language and in English (if transcripts were not originally issued in English).

Note: Request your transcripts early, as it may take four to six weeks for these to be generated. Ask your school if they generate electronic official transcripts that can be turned into PDFs. Screen shots or Internet-generated transcripts will not be accepted. 


4. Employment verification (PDF)

An employment verification letter from your supervisor is required. The letter must verify your length of employment at TD SYNNEX Corporation or its subsidiaries and must be on official TD SYNNEX corporation or its subsidiaries letterhead.

Current Co-workers or dependents of Co-workers:
Employment verification from a supervisor is required. Provide a letter for you or your parent’s length of employment at TD SYNNEX Corporation or its subsidiaries.

Past Co-workers or dependents of past Co-workers:
Provide pay stubs that verify length of employment at TD SYNNEX Corporation or its subsidiaries.
