TD SYNNEX Share the Magic awards $1.06M to four Upstate children’s charities

TD SYNNEX Share the Magic raised $1.06 million during its 14th year for children’s charities located in the Upstate.

The funds raised were distributed to four charities during a check presentation on Dec. 6. The recipients were Make-A-Wish SC, $277,906.77; Pendleton Place, $272,031.66; Clement’s Kindness, $258,792.10; and A Child’s Haven, $251,241.20.

The year-long charitable fundraising initiative raised money during multiple community events including a celebration event at Fluor Field in October. Other events held in 2024 included the TD SYNNEX Share the Magic Day at the Greenville Drive and the TD SYNNEX Share the Magic Golf Tournament.

Peter Larocque, retired North America president for TD SYNNEX, started the TD SYNNEX Share the Magic in 2011. He said it is truly inspiring to see the continued generosity of the TD SYNNEX family and the profound impact the four charities have on children and families in the Upstate.

“This initiative is a testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together for a shared purpose,” Larocque said. “The funds raised not only sustain vital programs but also provide hope, healing and life-changing experiences for those who need them most.”

Reyna Thompson recently stepped in as the new North America President for TD SYNNEX. She reaffirmed that even under new leadership, TD SYNNEX will continue to be a supporter of the Greenville community and the Share the Magic charities.

Since its inception, TD SYNNEX Share the Magic has raised more than $30 million across its eight chapters throughout North America. Bob Stegner, outgoing Senior Vice President of North America Marketing at TD SYNNEX, said Share the Magic allows TD SYNNEX to create meaningful change by supporting organizations that directly improve the lives of children and families.

“This initiative reflects the heart of our company and I’m proud to see how our team, partners and community come together year after year to make an incredible impact,” Stegner said.

During the Dec. 9 event, it was announced that TD SYNNEX’s Greenville office located at 39 Pelham Ridge Drive will be renamed the Peter Larocque Center. This will be done to honor Peter Larocque, recently retired president of North America for TD SYNNEX and founder of TD SYNNEX Share the Magic

Misty Farmer, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish South Carolina, said TD SYNNEX Share the Magic is an integral partner in Make-A-Wish South Carolina’s mission.

“There is no aspect of our operation that TD SYNNEX hasn’t impacted throughout the years,” Farmer said. “To give you some perspective, last year we granted 255 wishes, and Share the Magic funded 57 of the 255 wishes.”

TD SYNNEX Share the Magic recently hosted a celebration event Oct. 7 on the Grand Lawn at Hartness, east of Greenville. Around 1,400 people from across North America attended the event, which featured a silent auction, presentation program and special music entertainment.

The initiative’s final fundraising event of the year will be a golf tournament held Oct. 28 at Green Valley Country Club.

Gary Palenbaum, Executive Vice President of Product Management at TD SYNNEX, said it’s very rewarding to be part of the initiative that gives back to children in need.

“When you hand out $300,000 or $400,000 to charity, that’s moving — that’s sizable. That can make a huge difference,” Palenbaum said.

12th Annual TD SYNNEX Share the Magic Celebration raises $2.8 million

TD SYNNEX hosted its annual charity event, Share the Magic, Saturday night with a record-breaking fundraising total of $2.8 million. About 1,200 TD SYNNEX employees, customers, vendors, sponsors, charity representatives, community leaders, students and families attended the show-stopping event at the Grand Lawn at Hartness.

In Greenville, TD SYNNEX Share the Magic raises funds to benefit A Child’s Haven, Clement’s Kindness, Make-A-Wish South Carolina and Pendleton Place. Saturday’s celebration featured the charities and the children they serve, followed by both silent and live auctions and a “fund-a-wish” as a last push before the grand reveal. The party concluded with dancing and entertainment by Simply Irresistible.

“We are beyond thrilled with the outcome of this year’s TD SYNNEX Share the Magic celebration,” said Peter Larocque, TD SYNNEX President, North America and Founder of TD SYNNEX Share the Magic. “Saturday night’s event was the culmination of a year-long effort by our dedicated planning committee, vendors, partners and sponsors, who are so passionate about the charities and what they do for the children and families in our community. We couldn’t be happier and look forward to getting started on Share the Magic 2023.”

Share the Magic’s $2.8 million raised in Greenville is a portion of the $3.65 million raised in North America in 2022 as TD SYNNEX has expanded Share the Magic to six other markets.

“We are incredibly grateful for the funds we receive from TD SYNNEX Share the Magic,” said Tanya Camunas, CEO of A Child’s Haven. “Share the Magic provides our largest annual gift, and year after year we are astounded at the generosity of those who make it happen. These funds allow us to provide childcare-expelled children and their families with behavioral health and therapeutic childcare services for a year at no cost to families, breaking the cycles of poverty, abuse and neglect by treating the whole family. Share the Magic allows A Child’s Haven to deepen our impact and serve even more children in need, and we are truly blessed to be a beneficiary of this amazing initiative.”

Following an “Around the World” theme, the Share the Magic planning team transformed the outdoor space into a small village with cottages offering food and beverages from different countries — a nod to the company’s recent merger, which took TD SYNNEX Share the Magic worldwide.

With the help of TD SYNNEX Share the Magic in 2017:

  • A Child’s Haven decreased its dependency on diminishing government funds allowing them to serve more young children suffering from trauma or developmental delays. Additionally, it allowed their parents to receive necessary therapeutic interventions. A Child’s Haven provides therapeutic intervention and prevention services for developmentally delayed, abused and neglected children ages 12 weeks to 5 years in Greenville County. The organization is dedicated to transforming the lives of these young children and providing support and education for their families. They provide hope to families in challenging situations and give them the tools they need to look beyond their current circumstances to a brighter future.
  • Clement’s Kindness provided Upstate hospitals with critical facility upgrades that directly serve thousands of children impacted by pediatric cancer and blood disorders in addition to providing over $935,000 in direct financial assistance and programs to the families. Clement’s Kindness Fund for the Children helps address the medical, psychological, social, emotional and financial needs of Upstate families impacted by pediatric cancer and serious blood disorders. The fund also provides financial support to the BI-LO Charities Children’s Cancer Center and the Bon Secours St. Francis Cancer Center AYA Program which directly impacts the patients and their families.
  • Make-A-Wish South Carolina granted 184 wishes last year, averaging a wish every forty-eight hours. Make-A-Wish believes hope is medicine, and their mission is to grant life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Wishes provide wish kids with hope, renewed energy and strength – aiding them in facing their conditions and in healing. The transformational experience of a wish also unites communities and brings families closer together. As one of 62 Make-A-Wish chapters across the U.S., the South Carolina chapter has been granting wishes for local kids with life-threatening medical conditions since 1984. The chapter has never turned away a qualified child.
  • Pendleton Place provided residential and family-based services to 1,285 abused, neglected, and at-risk children in the Upstate community. In addition, hundreds of families benefited from the work accomplished through three key programs: the Assessment Center, Connections Count and Smith House. Pendleton Place offers programs that protect, equip, and heal vulnerable children, young adults, and families. Pendleton Place strengthens children while rebuilding families because it is their goal for each child to have a stable home environment and a bright future.
