The study also found that R1 lacked robust content moderation protections, which makes it highly susceptible to prompt injections and jailbreaking methods that lets users bypass any weak restrictions.

Further security testing showed that R1 was highly vulnerable to social engineering exploits, which allows users to rephrase harmful prompts to bypass restrictions. Additionally, it regularly generated misleading information without disclaimers, which increases misinformation risks. Because DeepSeek offers limited transparency regarding its safety training and user data protection, researchers also raised concerns about data privacy.
