As our valued partners know, Comstor has a laser-sharp focus on being the best Cisco distributor we can be. We were proud to receive the Cisco Americas Distributor of the Year this spring as a result of that focus and your partnership and commitment to us and Cisco. What we don’t often share is our focus on and commitment to the communities in which we live and work.
This summer, Comstor employees have shared the same levels of commitment to their communities as they do to their work here at the office. From the Bike MS Colorado event to A Precious Child and Habitat for Humanity, employees biked, built and beat the clock to make a difference for those in need in Colorado.
Here’s a snapshot of each event:
Bike MS Colorado: In 2015, we more than doubled the amount of Comstor participants in this ride to raise money for the fight against Multiple Sclerosis. We also more than doubled our donation as a result. From seven to 15 riders and $2,500 to almost $7,000 in donations, we stirred quite a bit of excitement in the office about this challenging bike ride. Bike MS Colorado is a two-day adventure that offers route options for all cycling abilities, from cruising the quaint towns of the Colorado foothills to tackling tough mountain climbs. In addition to riding, Comstor raised enough money to host a catered lunch for Team Some Nerve, which has a team member who has MS and was able to participate in the 2-day ride with her father for the first time ever. We were honored to support Some Nerve at the event.
A Precious Child: As part of our Westcon Group, North America Sales Kick-off this summer, more than 300 Westcon|Comstor employees took a break from sessions and moved outdoors for a team-building challenge focused on making a positive impact in the lives of disadvantaged and displaced children and families in Colorado. Employees were divided into 20 teams and challenged to beat the clock by assembling 150 backpacks full of school supplies. The backpacks ease the burden for families who may not be able to afford school supplies for the fall and eases any worries children may have about not having what they need for classes. It was a fun team-building exercise that Westcon|Comstor can feel good about every day.
Habitat for Humanity: In 2015, the Westcon Group paired up with Cisco and donated $35,000 – and many hard working employees! – to help build five single family homes in Colorado. Thirty volunteers put in approximately 240 hours of time to help build the sustainable Mariposa Townhomes, which are minutes from downtown Denver and have a community garden, recreation center and park. Each phase of the project met LEED Gold standards and ENERGY star v3 Indoor airPLUS andWaterSense criteria, so the townhomes will save between 30-40 percent on heating and electric use! Our employees had a great time working with Habitat and are already looking forward to donating even more time and effort in 2016!
It is humbling to me to know that Comstor employees have so much energy and love to share with our communities. Taking the same commitment and energy they give to their work every day, they are helping to make Colorado a better place for others.
