Data centers are the lifeblood of the new remote economy. Creating an efficient and reliable data sharing system, regardless of the distance between employees, became more important than ever in 2020. Remote work requirements challenged the IT channel to innovate, but now is the time for those innovations to become engrained. But what are the major changes that have had the most impact? Over the past 10 years, most IT teams have focused on consolidating workloads within small numbers of local centers. These systems were initially stressed during the beginning of the work-from-home period as more became expected of those systems. It became readily apparent that new systems were needed, and the channel delivered. Among the many developments of the last year, the most significant was the channel embracing the IoT, which many saw as a long time coming.
The “IoT vision for the future,” according to John Brookbank, Vice President of Americas Distribution for Cisco, is “pushing the boundaries of what is possible for customers.” It is an exciting offering for those in the channel but, as with any new technology, partners must first understand what it is and how it can benefit their practice.
Building a profitable IoT practice is at the core of the upcoming global digital conference for Cisco partners. Cisco IoT Connect will bring Brookbank, along with other key Cisco individuals, together to discuss and describe the best practices for IoT data centers.
“With the pandemic still raging around us, there’s never been a more ideal time for partners to help customers accelerate digitization efforts,” Brookbank wrote. “Although there are still many business challenges, the tools that fuel partner success are available.”
